FAQ

  • What is Songblocks?
Songblocks is a music workflow app built for artists, songwriters, and producers who want to finish more songs, stay creatively inspired, and never lose track of their ideas again. Think of it like a second brain for your music.
  • How is it different from a DAW?
Songblocks isn’t a DAW—it’s a sidecar that runs alongside whatever DAW you use. It doesn’t try to replace your studio tools. Instead, it organizes all your ideas, versions, lyrics, notes, and creative thoughts in one clean, visual space.
  • Is Songblocks free?
Nope. Songblocks is a paid subscription because we believe ads are the enemy of creative flow—and we’re not here to distract you.
  • How much does it cost?
$19/month. That’s it. One flat price. Every feature unlocked.
  • Do you offer a free trial?
Yes—30 days, no credit card required. Upload your catalog and see how much lighter your brain feels when everything’s finally organized.
  • Does it integrate with my DAW (Ableton, Logic, FL Studio)?
Nope - It’s designed to sit alongside your DAW, not inside it. Keep your creative flow going in your DAW, and let Songblocks handle your ideas, versions, notes, and progress tracking.
  • Do I need to download anything?
No downloads. It’s a web app—just open it in your browser. A native mobile app and desktop app is in the works, but the site already adjusts smoothly to mobile.
  • What exactly can I do inside Songblocks?
    - Store and organize song versions - Capture lyrics, video, and voice memos - Leave timestamped notes on specific song moments - Sort songs by priority or last updated - Group songs into projects like EPs or playlists - See everything in one clean view—no digging
  • What’s version control?
Every time you upload a new bounce, Songblocks stores it as a separate version—so you can scroll back through your entire creative process without overwriting anything.
  • What’s lyric expansion?
You can click a button and get AI-powered suggestions to expand your lyrics using sensory details, metaphors, mood words, or even your personal fears and desires. It’s like having a vibe-savvy co-writer.
  • What kind of files can I upload?
You can upload your bounces as .mp3, .wav, or .aiff. There’s also a built-in recorder for audio or video ideas. More media types (like importing video/pictures from your phone) are coming soon.
  • Is there a file size limit?
    Yes - 100MB per file.
  • Can I store lyrics?
Yes - There’s a dedicated lyric section with formatting, sentiment analysis, and lyric expansion tools powered by AI.
  • Is my work backed up?
Yes. Everything is stored securely. Audio files are hosted on Amazon S3 with multi-layered protection.
  • Can I recover deleted stuff?
Definitely. Archiving a project doesn’t delete it—it just hides it from your homepage. Re-upload any bounce from that project and it’ll pop right back into view.
